Leica DrillNav Plus

Leica DrillNav Plus

Leica DrillNav Plus, for blasthole drills, combines the latest in HP-GPS navigation and monitoring technologies to improve accuracy, efficiency and safety for optimum site operation.Combining real-time monitoring software with the latest in HP-GPS technologies.

Leica DrillNav Plus meets the needs of your mining operation by improving drill accuracy, efficiency and safety. Offering sites added flexibility, Leica DrillNav Plus gives you the option of designing drill patterns in the office, before downloading them directly to the drill; or the drill operator can layout standard patterns onboard the machine.

Leica DrillNav Plus’ advanced real-time GPS navigation and guidance capabilities sees operators correctly execute drill patterns – in all weather, day and night – and ensures that designed holes are accurately drilled to the correct depth. This results in a reduction in over- and under-drilling, better fragmentation and reduced blasting costs.

Leica DrillNav Plus records, and reports on, many KPIs including: activities versus delays; target depth; number of holes drilled; rate of penetration, and total shift footage/meterage.

Leica DrillNav Plus is just one product of many within Leica Geosystems’ leading-edge Jigsaw360 mine management suite.

Leica SIMS

Leica SIMS

Giving you the opportunity to extend the operating envelope of your dragline safely, and therefore the productivity of your dragline is the Leica Series Dragline Monitor option, Leica SIMS.

Giving you the opportunity to extend the operating envelope of your dragline safely, and therefore the productivity of your dragline is the Leica Series Dragline Monitor option, Leica SIMS.

Leica SIMS provides real-time, pre-emptive information to the operator, such as what to do to stop an operation that may cause strength or fatigue limits to be exceeded on the boom. It also provides actual boom strength and fatigue feedback.

This information can then be used to improve operator techniques, allow mining and maintenance engineers to better control and analyse peak performance factors, and to make immediate changes to optimise maintenance planning.

How does Leica SIMS work in practice?

Leica SIMS can be tailored to any dragline and is based on state-of-the-art structural integrity management technology developed at Monash University, Australia.

With the use of a finite element analysis of the boom, structural limits and critical member locations can be identified. In most cases, with the use of Leica SIMS, the dragline can then be certified to operate at well above its rate of suspended load.

Leica SIMS uses a series of sealed long life strain gauges designed to measure the stress and fatigue of the structure in key locations of the boom.

This information can be used to provide operators and foreman with valuiable real-time feedback on their operating practices. E.g. Critical alarms are engaged when:

  • Swinging with the bucket engaged

  • The bucket is out of plane, carrying excessive stress

  • Fly dumping

  • General fatigue and stress occurs

  • Lifting the bucket too fast causing boom osolation (excessive fatigue)

Optimising dragline productivity

Information provided by Leica SIMS can be used by dragline operators and maintenance and mine management to better control the key parameters the dragline boom is operating within.

Operators can load the boom to its structu

Leica DragNav Plus

Leica DragNav Plus

The Leica DragNav Plus option for the Series 3 Dragline Monitor delivers high precision GPS guidance and positioning on draglines. It allows operators to adhere to designs, minimises re-handle and coal losses, and increases of the rate of coal uncovered.

Traditionally, dragline operations required the time and cost of a surveyor to stake the required block alignments. The issues that this created included the compromised safety of surveyors, as well as difficult referencing of stakes (their distance and offset) especially in times of bad weather conditions or dust levels.

With Leica DragNav Plus (a Leica Series 3 Dragline Monitor option), an electronic design plan can be sent by radio telemetry from the office to the draglines for use by the operator. This allows the operator to see where the dragline bucket is in relation to the pit design - in real time - for productivity improvement.

The benefits of Leica DragNav Plus

  • Correct spoil placement
  • More coal, less stripping
  • Minimised re-handle
  • Graphical views for operators
  • Ore body navigation tools
  • Real-time progress tools (KPIs)
